‘Star Wars’ book suggests Darth Vader will be in ‘Rogue One’ movie

New spin-off film will be released in December 2016

Darth Vader looks set to appear in the forthcoming Star Wars: Rogue One movie after a picture book of the film showed images of the Sith lord.

The 164 page book entitled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – The Official Visual Story Guide is not due for release until next January. But images from the book and a synopsis have been previewed online via Collider showing Vader prominently in the images for the movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story features British actress Felicity Jones, who received an Oscar nomination earlier for her performance in The Theory Of Everything. Her co-stars include Riz Ahmed as well as Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker and Bloodline‘s Ben Mendelsohn.

Ahmed also posted a new picture from the movie this evening (May 17). He wrote:

The film is set for release on December 16, 2016, and will be directed by Gareth Edwards.

A brief plot synopsis for Rogue One was released in 2015. The film is set in the time period just before the events of A New Hope. It is the first in a series of spin-off titles set in the Star Wars universe.

Mikkelsen recently gave away given away his role in the film saying that he was “a little scared by his role,” in part because it’s an unestablished character, so he didn’t really know what to expect, or how he would be dressed. He then revealed his role will be Jyn (Felicity Jones)’ character’s father.

At the time he refused to comment on whether Darth Vader will feature in the spin-off.

The Danish actor added: “I can tell you absolutely nothing about it, or I’d have to kill you and the entire audience. But it’s the very first one, before anything you’ve ever seen in Star Wars.”
