Project will start filming in South Africa 'in a few weeks', actor says
Stephen Fry will star in a new adaptation of children’s story The Borrowers.
The actor discussed the existence of the project during an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live and revealed that filming on the Working Title production will begin “in a few weeks” in South Africa.
“I was surprised to get this script because I remember they did The Borrowers not that long ago,” Fry said.
“I thought, ‘Oh, that’s odd’, but I read the script and thought it was delightful and I had a really funny part,” he added.
No other details about the project were mentioned in the interview, but it’s been reported that Shameless writer Danny Brocklehurst has written the script.
The Mary Norton novels were adapted into a 1997 film starring John Goodman and Jim Broadbent. BBC TV versions of the story were transmitted in 1992 and 1993.
The actor and writer also opened up about the bipolar disorder he has battled for years in an interview with Sky 1’s In Confidence, which was broadcast on Friday (June 3).
