Redmayne won Best Actor for his performance as Hawking in 'The Theory Of Everything'
Stephen Hawking has congratulated Eddie Redmayne on his Oscar victory last night (February 22).
Redmayne took home the Best Actor prize for his performance as the revered physicist in The Theory Of Everything. The role required Redmayne to portray Hawking’s physical deterioration over a 25-year period after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease at the age of 21.
Julianne Moore won the Best Actress prize for her performance as a woman battling early onset Alzheimer’s disease in Still Alice, while Whiplash‘s JK Simmons and Boyhood‘s Patricia Arquette collected the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress trophies.
Though none of its cast won prizes, Birdman beat Boyhood to the awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Check out the full list of winners here.
