‘The Adventures Of Tintin’ smashes UK box office

Animated adventure takes almost £7 million on opening weekend

The Adventures Of Tintin has topped the UK box office chart on its opening weekend.

Steven Spielberg‘s 3D animated revival of Herge’s famous boy adventurer, opened up to a massive £6.7 million, easily beating last week’s chart topper Paranormal Activity 3.

The top ten is completed by big hitters Johnny English Reborn, Contagion and The Lion King 3D.

Meanwhile, the second highest new entry comes at six, with Ra.One, the new Bollywood action epic from Shah Rukh Khan. Taking nearly £1 million, it beats the critically acclaimed likes of social drama The Help and political mystery The Ides Of March.
