‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ director Marc Webb: ‘It’s huge’

Filmmaker talks web-slinging sequel

Director Marc Webb has promised that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be “huge”.

Webb finished shooting his superhero sequel in June last year and the film is set to open in April.

Speaking to Total Film about what people could expect, he said: “It’s huge. We’re pushing the levels of effects, the level of action and the emotional capacity of this kid. It’s an aggressive step forward.”

He added: “We throw around the term ‘operatic’ because of the spectacle and the theatre involved, which is pretty epic. There are enormous sets and great set-pieces. But really it’s a very intimate song – this relationship between Peter and Gwen is very delicate and beautiful.”

Andrew Garfield is set to reprise his role as Peter Parker for the film, while Emma Stone will also return as Gwen Stacy. Jamie Foxx will play the villainous Electro, while Chronicle star Dane DeHaan is another new addition to the cast and plays Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend. Shailene Woodley had been due to appear as Mary Jane Watson, but her role has recently been cut from the film and MJ will now make her Amazing Spider-Man debut in the third movie, due in 2016.

It was recently revealed that the film’s score will be provided by Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams and Johnny Marr, while screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, who all share the credit for writing the superhero sequel, have reportedly agreed to reunite to pen a third and fourth installment in the series due in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
