The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is to begin filming in London early next year.
Director Marc Webb will start shooting in the British capital at some point in February 2013 and continue through to July. The rough timeline was discovered by the Comic Book Movie website, which spotted a casting call for the film under its code name ‘London Calling’.
The casting call asks for a stand-in for actress Shailene Woodley, who has recently signed up for Webb’s sequel. The casting call specifies that the successful applicant “may be asked to stand in for her the entire film, February-July”.
Woodley is thought to be appearing as Peter Parker’s future wife Mary Jane Watson. Her place on the cast was announced earlier this month (December 2012) by Columbia Pictures, who also confirmed roles for Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan. Foxx will play a villain called Electro, while DeHaan will appear as Parker’s best friend Harry Osborn.
Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker aka Spiderman and Emma Stone will reprise her role as Gwen Stacy. Since its release this July (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man has taken over $751 million (£466 million) at the box office worldwide. The sequel, which has no official title yet, is scheduled for release on May 2, 2014.
