Sony Pictures has set official release dates for two more The Amazing Spider-Man movies.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will open in cinemas on June 19, 2016, followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 4 on May 4, 2018.
Jeff Blake, Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures, said in a press statement: “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
In the meantime, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open worldwide on May 2, 2014. Director Marc Webb began shooting his sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man in New York this February (2013). Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker and Emma Stone will reprise her role as Gwen Stacy, while Jamie Foxx has joined the cast and will play a villain called Electro.
Chronicle star Dane DeHaan is another new addition and will appear as Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend. The stellar ensemble cast is rounded off by Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Paul Giamatti and Shailene Woodley, who is thought to be playing Mary-Jane Watson.
Released last May (2012), Webb’s franchise reboot The Amazing Spider-Man was a hit with critics and cinema-goers alike, grossing over $750 million (£477 million) worldwide.
