‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ sequel release date confirmed

Studio already looking ahead to Andrew Garfield's second web-slinging outing

The release date of the sequel to next year’s Andrew Garfield-starring Spider-Man reboot has already been announced by studio Columbia Pictures.

The follow up to the The Amazing Spider-Man will open on May 2, 2014, traditionally seen as the beginning of the summer box office season.

The Amazing Spider-Man is due to be released in the UK and US on July 3, 2012. It will see Garfield star as Peter Parker, with Emma Stone as his love interest Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr Curt Connors, a scientist who turns into a reptilian humanoid monster. Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary are also in the cast.

Garfield gave an impassioned speech about how the character “saved” his life at Comic-Con in San Diego last month.

He told a whooping crowd:

I needed Spidey in my life when I was a kid and he gave me hope. Peter Parker has inspired me to feel stronger. He made me, Andrew, braver. Spider-Man has saved lives. He saved my life and I owe webhead a lot.
