‘The Avengers’ sequel in the works

Producer says that 'Iron Man 3' will lead into another all-star outing from Marvel

Plans are already afoot for a sequel to Marvel‘s superhero blockbuster The Avengers.

The first film, due next year, pulls together heroes Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America following solo outings from each of the heroes. Robert Downey Jr will then go off to make another Iron Man movie.

And now, producer Kevin Fiege has said that film will kick off a new story cycle that will see them band together once more. Speaking at New York Comic Con told The Hollywood Reporter:

Iron Man 3 will be the first of what we sort of refer to as phase two if this saga that will culminate, God willing, in The Avengers 2.

Fiege added that the film will once again end with a post-credits sequence that ushers in the next phase, saying: “It’s a nice tradition, and I like traditions, so I think we’ll keep that up.”

The Avengers is being directed by Buffy creator Joss Whedon. The first full trailer was released last week, and was downloaded over 10 million times in 24 hours. The film is due for release on May 4 next year.
