‘The Avengers’ star calls movie the ‘ultimate challenge’

'I have no idea what that film looks like,' says Jeremy Renner

The Avengers star Jeremy Renner has opened up about the challenges of making the film.

Renner plays Hawkeye in Marvel’s superhero ensemble, and due to the scale of the film the actor has said he feels like he might end up being an extra in the movie.

He told: Collider: “It’s huge. Look at how many characters are in that thing. It was the ultimate challenge for [writer/director] Joss Whedon, who knows that universe so well. There was no-one better to write it.”

“I don’t know how you put that many characters in a movie like that. It’s immense. But, with that, you pass the baton. You get to work with very few of them ’cause everybody’s got their own thing going on. Someone’s in the air, flying around. I’m on the ground, shooting a bow and arrow.”

Renner continued: “There are a lot of things happening. I have no idea what that movie looks like. Zero idea. Most of the time, I have a good idea of how it’s going to turn out because I’ve seen so much of it, but I have no idea. I feel like I might be an extra in it. I’m not sure.”

Unlike Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man, Hawkeye has not had a solo cinema outing in recent years. The Avengers is released in the UK on May 4, 2012. You can watch the teaser trailer at the top of the page.
