The shocker reaches cinemas in time for Halloween on October 24
A new clip from Australian horror film The Babadook has revealed the shadowy demon who preys upon a single mother and her young son when the boy’s nightmares invade their home.
The unsettling shocker is released in cinemas in time for Halloween on October 24.
Speaking in an interview with Australian broadcaster SBS, the film’s director Jennifer Kent, said: “When people get into the cinema they may be surprised by the depth of the story. I rarely thought about how to scare people when I was making The Babadook; I thought about telling a story about facing up to dark things in your life because, if you don’t, there are ramifications.”
“We all know what it’s like to suppress difficult feelings and experiences,” she added. “It’s something that fascinates me and it spurred on the writing and making of this film, which also taps into the fear of going mad.”
The film’s synopsis has revealed that “six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss” and struggling to discipline her “out of control” six year-old son Samuel (Noah Wiseman). When she reads him a mysterious pop-up book called ‘The Babadook’ events take a sinister turn. She finds her son impossible to love and his dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both.
