‘The Dark Knight Rises’ full trailer revealed – video

Watch Batman, Bane and Catwoman in action on NME.COM

The full theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has been released.

As the countdown continues toward Christopher Nolan‘s eagerly-awaited Batman sequel, fans have been given a proper look at the film in time for Christmas. And it seems all is not well in Gotham City, as you can see from the video below.

Bruce Wayne’s (Christian Bale) faithful butler Alfred (Michael Caine) appears apologetic for not protecting the millionaire orphan, as he promised his parents. And Tom Hardy‘s Bane is setting about his reign of terror on the streets, telling the caped crusader: “When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die.”

But the most tantalising moment is the reveal of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, who will go on to become the treacherous Catwoman. Pulling close to Wayne at a cocktail party in a cat-inspired eye mask, she warns him: “There’s a storm coming, Mr Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you’re gonna wonder how you ever thought you could ever live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.”

As uproar breaks out on the streets and a football game is attacked the stage is set for Batman to return once more.

The Dark Knight Rises is released in summer 2012. A special prologue is currently screening in front of IMAX editions of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
