Bale went to visit the activist after filming new flick The Flowers Of War in China. But on arriving in Dongshigu Village, Bale was confronted by more than a dozen guards and plain-clothed officers who began pushing them back from the checkpoint.

The actor asked: “Why can I not see this man?”. He was then punched and dragged away from the rest of the crew.

He managed to leave but was then chased for more than 30 minutes by two grey minivans.

Bale told CNN:

What I really wanted to do was to meet the man, shake his hand and say what an inspiration he is,” Bale was quoted as saying by CNN.

The incident came just days after filming on The Dark Knight Rises wrapped up.
