‘The Hangover 2’ director reveals improvisation scenes

Todd Phillips admits the stars would rework the movie's script

The Hangover 2 director Todd Phillips has admitted that certain scenes in the movie were improvised.

Phillips was speaking at the international premiere of the comedy sequel. You can watch our clip from the red carpet by clicking above.

The director admitted that a large part of the comic success of the films is down to the camaraderie between the lead actors. He said: “There’s a fair amount of improv. We do it more in the morning. We go over the script in the beginning of the day, and kind of retouch it and rewrite it, and then we shoot the scene.”

Elsewhere in the clip there are interviews with stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, plus Mike Tyson and Robert Downey Jr.

Helms, who plays Todd, added: “It had to be a good script, that was our only stipulation. All of us were excited to work together again, but none of us wanted to do it unless it was a worthy story to build on the first one. As soon as we saw the script we were like, ‘yeah, let’s do this’.”
