'The IT Crowd' actor has a cameo in the superhero sequel starring Chris Hemsworth
Marvel has released a new clip from Thor: The Dark World featuring The IT Crowd‘s Chris O’Dowd. Watch it below.
The teaser shows Natalie Portman‘s Jane enjoying a date with O’Dowd’s character Richard before Darcy, played by Kat Dennings, swoops in and rather rudely interrupts.
O’Dowd revealed in March of this year that he had filmed a cameo for the sequel, saying: “I didn’t think there was any way that I could be in a superhero movie, so I’ve done a scene in the new Thor movie, just for that. I just do like one scene, which was quite fun.”
Game Of Thrones director Alan Taylor shot the sequel to 2011’s Thor, which was directed by Kenneth Branagh, late last year in England and Iceland. Alongside Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Portman, original cast members Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård and Rene Russo have all reprised their roles from the first Thor film, which grossed a shade under $450 million (£290 million) at cinemas worldwide.
Meanwhile, former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston has joined the cast and plays a supervillain called Malekith the Accursed. According to Marvel’s official synopsis for the film, “a vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness” and it falls on Hemsworth’s hammer-wielding hero to stop him. Thor: The Dark World opens in UK cinemas on October 30 before getting a US release on November 8.
