The Wolverine has released a brand new trailer – you can watch the action-packed clip by scrolling down the page and clicking ‘play’.
The trailer begins with Logan (Hugh Jackman) saving a man’s life when an atomic bomb is dropped on Japan. He is given a Samurai sword for his act of bravery and returns years later to reclaim it, where he discovers the man he saved is now a rich businessman.
Unfortunately, Svetlana Khodchenkova‘s evil Viper is on hand to make the Wolverine’s stay in Japan an unwelcome one, as her “medical expertise” makes Logan mortal again. It also looks like there will be a really cool battle with Silver Samurai, as we get a glimpse of the action towards the end of the trailer.
Hugh Jackman has recently said he was unhappy with the outcome of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Despite grossing $372 million worldwide, the Gavin Hood-directed 2009 X-Men spin-off was seen as a disappointment among die-hard fans, critics and Jackman himself.
“I had something to prove, and we could have done better,” said the actor. “Somehow the first Wolverine movie ended up looking like the fourth X-Men — just with different characters. I left unsure if we’d achieved our goal, which was to make sure people understood my character.”
However, Jackman is confident that this summer’s The Wolverine, directed by Walk The Line‘s James Mangold, will rectify mistakes of the past. “This movie will really get to his core,” he said. “So…fingers crossed that we’ve done it this time. I’m pretty confident we have.”
Alongside Jackman and Famke Janssen, who plays Jean Grey, Wolverine’s love interest from the X-Men movies, The Wolverine cast also includes Will Yun Lee (Die Another Day). The film is scheduled to open in UK cinemas on July 26.
