This man won a jet ski for giving the shortest Oscars speech

We are jealous.

The costume designer behind Phantom Thread had a double celebration at the Oscars last night, after his acceptance speech for Best Costume Design saw him becoming the subsequent recipient of a jet ski.

The huge prize was picked up by Mark Bridges, after host Jimmy Kimmel announced that he would be awarding a jet ski to the Oscar winner who delivered the shortest speech.

“Why waste precious time thanking your mom when you could be taking her for the ride of her life: on a brand new jet ski!” Kimmel told the crowd.

“This is not a joke. I will be timing you. I have a stopwatch.”

And it was Bridges that ultimately triumphed, winning a  2018 Kawasaki Jet Ski Ultra 310LX which was presented by Helen Mirren.

But he faced stiff competition from Jordan Peele, who appealed for quiet from the crowd because they were “going to mess up his jet ski.”

Roger Deakins, meanwhile, wasn’t so keen on the prospect as he picked up the cinematography award for Blade Runner 2049.

“I guess I better say something, or else they’ll give me a jet ski, and I don’t see myself on a jet ski somehow”, the 68-year-old said.

Elsewhere, Jennifer Lawrence also won huge plaudits online after she was seen clambering over chairs to get to her seat, while effortlessly avoiding spilling a single drop of her wine.
