The England goalkeeper has become a national hero
Thomas Turgoose has revealed that he’d like to play Jordan Pickford in a new biopic.
The ‘This is England’ actor tweeted Pickford following England’s win against Colombia last night (July 3).
The team are now through to the quarter-finals, facing Colombia on penalties after the match went to extra time. England eventually won 4-3 with Jordan Pickford saving a shot, and Colombia’s Mateus Uribe hitting the bar.
“Ay @JPickford1 if we win the World Cup can I play you the bioepic please ?” Turgoose tweeted.
Pickford is yet to respond to the query but he did tweet a picture of his winning save.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn has backed a campaign for England to have a day off should England win the World Cup.
Speaking after Prime Minister’s Questions earlier today (July 4), a spokesperson for the Labour leader said Corbyn had watched the penalty shootout and was calling for a bank holiday if England lifted the trophy at the end of the tournament. Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry originally suggested the idea.
“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but I think it is the case that Jeremy believes that if England were to win the World Cup there should be a public bank holiday in celebration,” the spokesperson said. “The World Cup is a very special international competition.
“It’s something that brings people together on a very large scale and we need recognition of that and recognition of the importance of football in the country.”
PM Theresa May also commented on England’s victory. “The country witnessed a very rare and welcome event last night – the England football team winning a penalty shootout. I think the explosion of relief and, most of all, joy could be felt up and down the country, not just in the smoking room in the House Of Commons.”
