The 'Mission: Impossible' actor is being tipped to star as the lead superhero in an upcoming DC Comics movie
Tom Cruise is reportedly being lined up to play the lead Green Lantern in the forthcoming Warner Bros. / DC Comics film Green Lantern Corps.
The movie, which is projected for release in 2020, is set to be a live-action reboot, with previous reports having linked The Lone Ranger and Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer with the role of Hal Jordan / Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds has previously portrayed the comic book superhero on the big screen.
However, a new report has now claimed that Cruise is being considered for the lead role in Green Lantern Corps. Crazy Days and Nights first published a report on the producers’ search for a big-name star to lead the film back in March, and they have now finally claimed that it is Cruise who has been sought for the role.
The report also claims that Cruise has said that he’ll only sign on to do Green Lantern Corps if one major part of the film’s script is changed – the part which sees his Green Lantern character being killed off.
Cruise’s frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie – who has written and directed two Mission: Impossible films and Jack Reacher – has also been linked with the DC project in recent months.
Warner Bros. has not yet publicly commented on any casting decision for Green Lantern Corps.
Last month, footage of Cruise breaking his foot while filming the latest Mission: Impossible film was released in promotion of the new movie.
