Tom Cruise Mumbai ‘fans’ revealed as paid extras?

Reports claim the 200 people who met star at Mumbai Airport were hired in

Fans gathering to greet Tom Cruise at Mumbai Airport were in fact paid extras, it has been suggested.

The star was met by a crowd of over 200 enthusiastic supporters when he landed in India to promote Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, along with co-star Anil Kapoor.

But it has now been suggested by Firstpost Bollywood that the crowd was in fact hired in to greet him.

An anonymous member of the crowd said:

I don’t know who he is or what he does. We were told to come here by 1pm today and wait for a foreign VIP to come out of the airport gate and scream and shout when he came.

They continued: “None of us know who Tom is. There was a buffet lunch also for us and we were paid Rs 150 for this job today. We do this for television shows and other such events where crowds are required.”

Cruise’s trip to India included a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra, and saw him meet Bollywood stars Preity Zinta, Sonam Kapoor and Arjun Rampal.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Cruise’s fourth movie in the franchise, opens in the UK on December 26.
