The trailer for the upcoming short film 'The Last Mile' features the stars from the landmark movie
Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington have marked the upcoming 25th anniversary of Philadelphia by appearing in a powerful video about the progress made in tackling HIV and AIDS since the release of the landmark film.
Both actors starred in the acclaimed December 1993 movie, with Hanks picking up the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Andrew Beckett. Bruce Springsteen also won an Oscar for his work on the film, scooping the prize for Best Original Song for his composition ‘Streets of Philadelphia’.
Hanks, Washington and their co-star Mary Steenburgen have all appeared in a new trailer for The Last Mile, a short film from The Coca-Cola Company and the charity (RED). In the clip, the trio talk about their memories of the AIDS crisis and how Philadelphia helped bring the severity of the issue to a worldwide audience.

Find a synopsis for The Last Mile, which is released in full on November 15, below.
“The Last Mile is inspired by the significant progress made in HIV / AIDS since the 1993 release of Philadelphia. Tom Hanks, Mary Steenburgen, Denzel Washington and writer Ron Nyswaner express director Jonathan Demme’s extraordinary vision and discuss changes in perception around HIV / AIDS that Philadelphia created.
“This special featurette examines how Philadelphia significantly impacted the narrative around HIV / AIDS well beyond LGBTQ communities and permeated mainstream America. The story is then weaved together as we are brought to present day to witness the incredible journey of a heroic mother in Africa who collects and delivers life-saving medicine to her community via an initiative called Project Last Mile.
“The Last Mile drives home the message that the end of HIV / AIDS is well within our grasp, but only with continued support. Which is why now is the time to reinforce the need for funds and continued awareness.”
Earlier this week, Tom Hanks opened up about recording his final voice parts for Toy Story 4.
