Tom Hanks pays tribute to mother following her death at 84

“She was the difference in many lives”

Tom Hanks announced on Twitter that his mother, Janet Frager, had died yesterday (July 12) at the age 84, with a series of online tributes.

Announcing the news, Hanks posted a photograph of Frager with the comment, “This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives. Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom!” You can see that post below.

Later yesterday, Hanks followed that post up by tweeting a picture of the Red Bluff movie theatre in California, with the comment: “Saw many movies here with our Mom. Thanks for all who came to see her off.”

Rita Wilson, Hanks’ wife, also posted a message on Instagram paying tribute to her mother-in-law. It read: “This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children. Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now.”

Last year, Hanks found a student’s lost ID card, taking to Twitter in a bid to find its owner and return the card. “Lauren! I found your Student ID in the park. If you still need it my office will get to you,” Hanks tweeted with a picture of the card, which belonged to a student from the city’s Fordham University.

That was shortly after he spent a portion of Monday afternoon in September 2015 commenting on a wide variety of Reddit threads. The double Oscar-winning actor joined the online bulletin board in 2014 so he could take part in a ‘Reddit AMA’ question and answer session.
