The first film based around the character is set to be released on October 5. It will star Hardy as Eddie Brock, who becomes Venom. Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate, and more are also set to appear in the movie.
Speaking to Total Film, Hardy said: “We’ve signed up for three of them. So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them.”
He added that the cast had been told the film could lead to a standalone universe. “It’s an amuse-bouche,” he said of the first film. “And, for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were.
“We’re all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”
Earlier this month, Hardy said he had “kind of had enough of acting” and suggested he was ready to move behind the camera.
Speaking to Esquire, he said: “What is it that draws you to the craft? At this age, I don’t know anymore. I’ve kind of had enough. If I’m being brutally honest, I want to go on with my life.” He added that he would like to “produce, write, and direct.”
