‘Twilight’ becomes first movie with one million Twitter followers

The @Twilight handle has 50% more followers than the next biggest film on Twitter

Twilight has become the first film franchise to reach one million followers on Twitter.

The @Twilight account passed the seven-figure milestone on Sunday (August 19). To celebrate, makers Summit Entertainment posted a thank you message on YouTube – scroll down to watch it.

Summit Entertainment launched the @Twilight account in September 2009 and regularly use the the handle to break news announcements and distribute exclusive content from the films. As of today (August 21), the handle has tweeted 2,368 times and follows 113 other accounts.

According to a Summit Entertainment press release, the @Twilight handle has “50% more followers than the next biggest film property”. At present, the official Harry Potter account has around 669,000 followers, while The Hunger Games has approximately 611,000 and The Avengers has around 151,000. Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy does not have an official Twitter account.

The final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, will be released in the UK and the US on November 16 (2012). Earlier this month (August 9), director Bill Condon asked fans to show respect to the film’s stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, as they face a crisis in their real life relationship.
