Vin Diesel confirms ‘Fast & Furious 8’ for April 2017 release

'Fast & Furious 7' is now the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time

Vin Diesel has announced that the eighth film in the Fast & Furious franchise will be released on April 14, 2017.

The actor made the announcement at Universal Pictures’ presentation at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas yesterday (April 23), telling attendees: “We’re going to make the best movie you’ve ever seen.”

Fast & Furious 7 – simply titled Furious 7 in the US – opened in cinemas on April 3 and became the fastest film ever to gross $1 billion (£660 million) at the global box office, reaching the milestone in just 12 days. The film, which features the final screen appearance from the late Paul Walker, has now taken over $1.15 billion (£760 million) worldwide, placing it seventh on the all-time list.

Diesel had spoken boldly about Fast & Furious 7‘s potential success before the film had even been released, saying in March: “Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie. It will probably win Best Picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.”
