The racing car saga will drive on until 2021, Diesel confirms
Vin Diesel has confirmed release dates for the next three Fast & Furious movies.
The actor shared the news earlier today (February 3) in an Instagram post proclaiming “two decades, ten films, one saga”. The franchise began in 2001 and now has raked in a total of $3.907 billion (£2.700 billion) at box offices worldwide.
Fast & Furious 8 will race into cinemas on April 14, 2017, followed by Fast & Furious 9 on April 14, 2017 and Fast & Furious 10 on April 2, 2021. Check out the actor’s Instagram post below.
Vin Diesel previously revealed that the Fast & Furious franchise will end with “one last trilogy”, meaning that according to current plans 2010’s Fast & Furious 10 will be its final instalment.
After opening in cinemas earlier this year, Fast & Furious 7 became the franchise’s most successful outing yet, grossing over $1.516 billion (£1.05 billion) at the global box office. That total places the car chase sequel sixth on the all-time list behind Avatar, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World and Marvel’s The Avengers.
‘See You Again’, a song by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth that features on its soundtrack, reached Number One in both the UK and US and will compete for the Best Original Song prize at the Academy Awards later this month.
