Riddick is the the third instalment in the dark sci-fi saga that began with 2000’s Pitch Black and continued four years later with The Chronicles Of Riddick. Both films were written and directed by David Twohy, who returned to script and shoot the new movie.
Karl Urban, who played the villainous Vaako in The Chronicles Of Riddick, has reprised his role, while Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff (pictured right) is a new addition to the cast. According to the official plot synopsis, the film begins with Diesel’s Riddick fighting for survival on a barren planet occupied by deadly alien predators. His only option is to alert mercenaries by activating an emergency beacon, but in the process he also stirs up an old rival.
Riddick opens in UK cinemas on September 6. Meanwhile, Diesel is due to start shooting the next Fast & Furious movie in August. Since its release in May, Fast & Furious 6 has become the most successful film in the franchise yet after raking in over $682 million (£454 million) at the box office worldwide.
