Warwick Davis confirms return for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Original Ewok actor reveals casting via official Star Wars Youtube account

Warwick Davis has confirmed he will return to play an as yet unspecified role in Star Wars: Episode VII.

The actor, who first appeared in the Star Wars universe as the Ewok Wicket in 1983’s Return of the Jedi, revealed his casting via a Youtube video on the official Star Wars account.

He posted the video on his Twitter feed yesterday with the message: “I’ve been waiting for over a year for this phone call…”

In the tongue-in-cheek video, Davis interviews head of Lucas Film Kathleen Kennedy and takes a mocked up call from the film’s director JJ Abrams. The video ends with Star Wars-style titles which reveal: “Warwick Davis will return to that galaxy far, far away for Episode VII in 2015.

Davis appeared in all of the Harry Potter films playing Griphook and Professor Flitwick. The actor also starred in Ricky Gervais’ comedy series Life’s Too Short.

Star Wars Episode VII is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios outside London. The story will pick up 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and feature the return of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). They will be joined by Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels reprising their roles as Chewbacca, R2D2 and C3PO. Watch the Warwick Davis video below.
