A new supercut shared on Star Trek‘s official Facebook page celebrates 50 years of the iconic sci-fi franchise.
The first episode of the original Star Trek TV series aired on September 8, 1966 – exactly 50 years ago yesterday. The franchise has since spawned six other TV series, including one coming in 2017, as well as 13 feature films.
The supercut features familiar faces from many of the franchise’s different incarnations, including William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, and Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner. Watch below.
The franchise’s new TV series, Star Trek: Discovery, is being steered by Bryan Fuller and is due to debut in January 2017. It is set 10 years before the original TV series starring Shatner and Nimoy.
Fuller recently said that the series will focus on a female Lieutenant Commander, rather than the Discovery’s captain, and that many of the crew will be aliens. Fuller, who previously created the TV series Hannibal, added that at least one crew member will be gay, continuing the franchise’s rich history of representing minority groups on screen.
