Watch a trailer for new ‘Blair Witch’ sequel film

Follow-up to 1999 cult hit coming this September

A new Blair Witch film was surprise-announced at a Comic-Con screening on Friday (July 22), with its trailer now online.

The original The Blair Witch Project movie was released in 1999, a found footage horror film directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez that went on to become a commercial and cult hit.

Simply titled Blair Witch, this new sequel is directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest) and was originally marketed as The Woods to not spoil the surprise reveal.

The trailer stars actor James Allen McCune in the role of James, the brother of Heather from the original movie. Watch below.

Blair Witch will be released on September 16.

An official synopsis for the movie reads: “A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realise the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.”

The film follows 2000’s Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, the original Blair Witch sequel which proved to be a critical flop.
