“You were reborn”: Watch the epic new trailer for ‘Captain Marvel’

"Your life began the day it nearly ended"

The new trailer for Captain Marvel has been released, and it offers a telling glimpse of Carol Danvers’ transformation into the titular hero.

The Marvel epic, which is set for release in March 2019, sees Oscar winner Brie Larson star as fighter pilot Danvers, who adopts superhuman powers when her DNA fuses with that of the powerful Kree alien race.

In the latest trailer, we’re given another look at *that* moment of Danvers seemingly attacking an elderly woman. However, the attack makes a bit more sense when it is subsequently revealed that “Skrulls are the bad guys”, as the seemingly innocent pensioner fights back.

Elsewhere, we’re given a brief peek at Danvers’ transformation into Captain Marvel. “Your life began the day it nearly ended,’ a voiceover ominously reveals.

“We found you with no memory – we made you one of us. So you could live longer, stronger, superior. You were reborn.”

Although it’s been largely speculated that Captain Marvel will play a huge role in Avengers 4, the film actually takes place in 1995 – long before the events of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor.

That said, Marvel boss Kevin Feige previously described her as “more powerful than any character we’ve introduced thus far”, so she could come in handy.

An official synopsis teases: “The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019.
