The first trailer has been unveiled for Disney’s live action reboot of Aladdin – and early indications suggest that it’s pretty faithful to the original film.
Set for release in May next year, the new take on the iconic tale sees newcomer Mena Massoud star as the eponymous prince of thieves. He’s joined by British star Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, while Will Smith takes over from the late Robin Williams as the Genie.
In the first trailer, we see our first look at the fictional city of Agrabah, before the scene quickly changes to the Cave of Wonders – where the titular hero first discovers the magic lamp.

“Only one may enter here…one whose worth lies far within…the diamond in the rough”, states the voice of the stone tiger that guards the cave.
As the trailer draws to a close, we’re also provided with our first look at Mena Massoud in the title role, as he stares longingly at the magic lamp.
The full teaser trailer comes after Will Smith teased the film’s poster on Instagram earlier this week.
“Lemme out, can’t wait for y’all to see me BLUE”, Smith wrote.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin is set for release on May 24 2019.
