Common, Laurence Fishburne and Ruby Rose join Keanu Reeves in the Rome-set sequel
Warner Bros. have released an action-packed first trailer for John Wick: Chapter Two.
Common plays the main villain opposite Keanu Reeves in the Rome-set sequel, while Laurence Fishburne and Ruby Rose have also joined the cast.
Meanwhile, Ian McShane and John Leguizamo are reprising their roles from the original film, which starred Reeves as a former hitman who comes out of retirement after an obnoxious rich kid (Alfie Allen) kills the beagle puppy left to him by his late wife.
The sequel’s plot synopsis teases: “In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.”
After being released in the US in October 2014 and in the UK the following April, John Wick grossed over $78 million (£51 million) at the global box office – an impressive return from its $20 million (£13 million) budget. Read the NME review here.
The original film was co-directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, but Stahelski directs the sequel by himself. Derek Kolstad, who wrote the original’s screenplay, has also written the follow-up.
John Wick: Chapter 2 is set for release in the UK on February 17, 2017.
