James Franco has monkey troubles
The first full-length trailer for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes has hit the internet, bringing with it many plot details for the forthcoming film.
The trailer shows how, through genetic testing, the apes first gain their intelligence and, thanks to years of poor treatment, turn on their masters.
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes will be the first film to tackle the backstory to the 1968 science fiction classic.
James Franco will play the scientist who raises the original ‘master chimp’ Caesar, while Andy Serkis, using motion capture, will play the chimp.
Other cast members joining Franco and Serkis for the San Francisco-based apocalypse include Slumdog Millionaire‘s Freida Pinto, Harry Potter actor Tom Felton and Third Rock From The Sun‘s John Lithgow, seen in the trailer as Franco‘s father.
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes marks the seventh outing for the Planet Of The Apes franchise. The last instalment, the much-criticised Mark Wahlberg and Tim Burton ‘re-imagining’, was released in 2001.
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes will be released in the UK on August 12.Video
