"Once you see him, you can't un-see him"
A second trailer has been released for a horror movie based on the internet bogeyman of Slenderman.
Slender Man, which is released on August 10 via Screen Gems, arrives a year after the celebrated HBO documentary, Beware The Slenderman.
The new film furthers the story by focusing on “the cyber legend featuring an ominously tall, humanoid supernatural entity with no facial features and a penchant for haunting teenagers,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Slender Man came to life in a forum in 2009 by user Eric Knudsen who edited a real-life image of a man for a photoshop contest held by the website, Something Awful. From there, the horror legend grew.
In 2014, Slender Man seemingly inspired Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser to stab their friend Payton Leutner (ABC News). Leutner survived.
As the NY Post reports, Weier’s father has criticised Slender Man movie, calling it “extremely distasteful” for “popularising a tragedy.”
Weier and Morgan were both sentenced to psychiatric prison terms earlier this year (via CBS).
The upcoming film is directed by Sylvain White (Stomp The Yard, The Losers) and is written by David Birke.
Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Taylor Richardson, Annalise Basso and Jaz Sinclair star in the movie. Javier Botet plays the role of Slender Man.
