Willem Dafoe joins cast of ‘Justice League’ movie

And he won't be playing the Green Goblin

Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of the forthcoming Justice League movie.

The actor’s role, who played the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise, is yet to be confirmed but he is expected to play a good guy, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

It comes just weeks after JK Simmons, who also played Peter Parker’s boss J Jonah Jameson in the trilogy, was announced as Batman’s police ally Commissioner Gordon in the forthcoming Justice League Part One.

Directed by Zack Snyder, it will feature heroes Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), the Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) teaming up together.

Snyder recently confirmed that shooting for the movie will begin this month. “The idea that we could begin to boot up a Justice League concept was a cool thing,” he said. “It was a little bit of an ‘about time’ moment, and I don’t blame [the studio] for feeling that way, because it’s a long time coming.

“But I do feel like it’s a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, ‘Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.’ But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist.”

It is due for release in November 2017, and will be followed up with a sequel in 2019. This year, meanwhile, we will see Jared Leto’s Joker leading a large group of DC villains saving the world in Suicide Squad
