X-Men stars Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore to return for ‘Days Of Future Past’

Director Bryan Singer announces actors will reprise roles of Kitty Pryde, Rogue and Iceman

X-Men: Days Of Future Past director Bryan Singer has announced Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore will return to the franchise.

Singer tweeted the news, adding thanks to Brett Ratner, who directed the final film in the original trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand, for letting their characters live.

Page starred in that third film as Kitty Pryde, a mutant who possesses a phasing ability allowing her to pass through almost any object, while Paquin and Ashmore respectively featured as Rogue and Bobby ‘Iceman’ Drake in X-Men, X2 and The Last Stand.

They’re not the only actors from the original films returning for Days Of Future Past. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are back as Professor Xavier and Magneto, while James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will also feature as the younger versions of the characters, as seen in 2011’s X-Men: First Class. Hugh Jackman will also appear as Wolverine and Jennifer Lawrence will once again play Mystique, with many other actors expected to reprise their roles.

As previously reported, it is not yet known whether January Jones will return as First Class’ Emma Frost .

Page’s return makes most sense as the Days Of Future Past storyline features Kitty Pryde extensively. The story, which originally ran in 1981, depicts an alternate universe where mutants have been rounded up into concentration camps. Pryde, contacted by a future version of herself, must warn the rest of the X-Men to prevent a moment in history with potentially consequences. The time travel element is perhaps the reason both young and old versions of Professor Xavier and Magneto can appear in the same film.
