'What if Wes Anderson directed X-Men?' spoofs director's distinctive visuals and film-making tropes.
A YouTube film-maker has imagined what an X-Men movie directed by Wes Anderson might look like in a new parody video.
Patrick Willems’ ‘What if Wes Anderson directed X-Men?’ video purports to be a trailer for a fake film called The Uncanny X-Men. While introducing well-known characters from the X-Men series including Wolverine, Magneto and Jean Grey, the video imitates Anderson’s distinctive visual style and sends up tropes familiar from his films including slow-motion running scenes, deadpan dialogue and a retro guitar-pop soundtrack.
The only notable omission is a cameo appearance from one of Anderson’s favoured stable of actors, which includes Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody.
Anderson’s most recent film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, was released last year (2014) and went on to earn nine Academy Award nominations, winning four in technical categories. However, Anderson lost out in both the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories and the film missed out on the Best Picture prize.
