Jason Clarke has signed on to star in the new Planet Of The Apes movie.
The Australian actor, 43, is currently enjoying a career breakthrough thanks to his supporting role in Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow‘s acclaimed drama about the CIA’s decade-long hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Clarke also has a supporting role in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, due this May.
Titled Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, the sequel to 2011’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes starring James Franco is set to begin filming this spring. Franco has admitted that he is unlikely to return, even for a cameo appearance, but motion capture specialist Andy Serkis will be back as rebellious chimp Caesar.
The sequel will be set 15 years after the last movie, says The Hollywood Reporter, but plot details are being kept under wraps and Clarke’s role is currently unknown. The script has been written by Mark Bomback, whose previous credits include Unstoppable and Total Recall.
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is being helmed by Cloverfeld director Matt Reeves after Rupert Wyatt, who called the shots on the 2011 movie, dropped out in September last year (2012). The sequel is slated for release in May 2014.
