‘Zombieland 2’ is back from the dead with ‘Godzilla’ writer hired by Sony

Ruben Fleischer is set to direct but no confirmation on whether Jesse Eisenberg will return

The long awaited follow up to the 2009 undead apocalypse comedy Zombieland looks to be back on with the news that studio Sony have hired Godzilla writer Dave Callaham to script the sequel.

The project had appeared to be stuck in development hell but Ruben Fleischer will return to direct

Deadline reports it looks unlikely that the film’s original stars will return all having gone on to bigger projects.

Jesse Eisenberg has since won an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network and will appear as villain Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Woody Harrelson hit paydirt as Katniss Everdeen’s mentor Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games franchise. He also received an Emmy-award nomination for True Detective.

Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacy in the Spiderman films and has recently worked with director Woody Allen. She will be seen next in the meta hero comedy Birdman with Michael Keaton.

Bill Murray made a memorable cameo appearance in the original zombie comedy and returns to the big screen in the comedy St. Vincent.

Zombieland took over $100m at the world wide box office. It followed nerdy student Columbus (Eisenberg) who hooked up with shotgun-toting Tallahasse (Harrelson) on a road trip mission to reach Ohio slaying hordes of zombies in their path. Stone and Abigail Breslin played sisters in the film.
