US flat-sharing sitcom will celebrate its 100th episode during Season Five

Zooey Deschanel’s sitcom New Girl is to return for a fifth season later this year.

US network Fox announced today (March 31) that it has officially commissioned Season Five of the flat-sharing comedy, which co-stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone and Damon Wayans, Jr.

Season Five will begin on Fox later this year (2015) and during the new run New Girl will celebrate its 100th episode. The penultimate episode of Season Four of New Girl is set to air on Fox tonight.

Fox’s entertainment president David Madden said in a press release: “Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television. The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of Liz, Brett, Dave and the entire New Girl team. We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”

Created by No Strings Attached screenwriter Elizabeth Merriweather, New Girl began on Fox in 2011 and has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and five Primetime Emmy Awards. In the UK, it airs on E4, which will air Season Four later this year.
