Christine Taylor is to reprise her role as Matilda Jeffries in Ben Stiller’s Zoolander sequel.
Last month (December) Stiller confirmed that Zoolander 2 has a script, but admitted “it hasn’t yet been fully formulated”. The 2001 original followed Stiller’s dim-witted male model Derek Zoolander as he got sucked into a plot by corrupt fashion executives to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Along the way, romance blossomed between Stiller’s Zoolander and Taylor’s fashion journalist Matilda Jeffries.
Asked about the film by Entertainment Weekly, Taylor – who is married to Stiller in real life – replied: “I can tell you it’s happening, but I can’t tell you where Matilda’s at and where their relationship is at. It’s all top secret!”
In November of last year, it was reported that Penelope Cruz had signed up to co-star in Zoolander 2 opposite Stiller, who will also direct the comedy sequel from a script which has had input from Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2).
Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson are also rumoured to be reprising his roles from the original film, which has gained a sizeable cult following in the years since its release. Stiller has revealed that he would like model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne to make an appearance too.
