The first trailer for Tom Hardy’s ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off ‘Venom’ is here

But where's Venom?

The first trailer for Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off, ‘Venom’ has been released.

Tom Hardy takes the lead, playing Eddie Brock, a freelance photographer who becomes infected by an alien lifeform and turns into a half-human, half-alien villain – who sees Spider-Man as his arch nemesis.

The trailer shows Hardy as Brock, waking up in an MRI scanner, and he can be heard speaking in a voiceover.

“Everyone’s got their thing,” he says.

“Maybe it’s a breakup, a death, an accident – whatever it is, you used to be one thing. But now, you’re something else.

“We all have our own problems, our own issues, our own…demons.”

The trailer doesn’t feature Venom whatsoever, so fans will have to wait and see for Sony’s take on the character.

Last May it was announced that Hardy would play the lead in ‘Venom’, which will be part of a new ‘Spider-Man’ cinematic universe that was briefly hinted at in ‘Captain America: Civil War‘, which introduced current ‘Spider-Man’ actor Tom Holland to the role.

Speaking at the time, the film’s director, Ruben Fleischer, said: “I can promise you badass action, Venom’s dark humour and I can also promise you an absolutely stunning performance by Tom Hardy.”

Earlier this month, fans got their first glimpse of Hardy as Brock when a photo was released of the actor in character on set.

‘Venom’ will hit UK cinemas on October 5.

This time last year, Hardy called action-hero roles in films “boring”, referring to them as “homogenised sort of eight-pack, tanned, straight-teeth, physicalised, action-hero leading male”.

Meanwhile, last week it was revealed that Tom Hardy finally got his Leonardo DiCaprio tattoo, two years after losing a bet with his ‘The Revenant‘ co-star that DiCaprio wouldn’t win the Best Actor trophy at the Oscars for his role in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s award-winning epic.

Hardy also recently uploaded a clip of him reciting his character Banes’ iconic lines from ‘The Dark Knight’ to his dog, as well as a rap mixtape he made in 1999.
