‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Raging Bull’ actor Frank Adonis dies, aged 83

Best known for portraying Antony Stabile in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 hit film

Goodfellas and Raging Bull actor Frank Adonis has died, aged 83. Adonis was best known for his work portraying Antony Stabile in Scorsese’s 1990 hit film.

As well as appearing in 1995’s Casino, Adonis appeared in over 40 films including Find Me Guilty, Mafioso: The Father, The Son, True Romance, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Wall Street and Mob Queen.

He was also known to appear on episodes of Law & Order, The Equalizer and The Sopranos.

Speaking to TMZ, his wife Denise Adonis said that the actor died Wednesday night while he was in Las Vegas. She added that he had been ill with kidney problems for a few years and that he had been on dialysis and a ventilator but they waited until after Christmas to take him off it.

“He will be missed. He was a great father and an amazing husband. He helped all his friends he could,” she added. “Great writer, director and actor. He was my best friend.”

Adonis’ fellow Goodfellas actor Frank Pellegrino passed away last year, aged 72 after losing a battle with lung cancer.

Pellegrino played FBI Chief Frank Cubitoso in The Sopranos and Johnny Dio in Goodfellas. He also had roles in Law & Order and FBI, as well as being a member of the ’60s singing group The Holidaes.

Not only that, but he was also a celebrated restaurateur – co-owning the famous Rao’s in New York, which featured on screen in The Wolf of Wall Street, Law & Order, Top Chef and in Jay Z’s ‘DOA’ music video. His love of food also saw him pen the books ‘Rao’s Cookbook’, ‘Rao’s Recipes from the Neighborhood’ and ‘Rao’s on the Grill’.
