French film to open Edinburgh Film Festival

Oscar-winning director inspired by Scotland

The Illusionist, an animated film from the Oscar-winning French director Sylvain Chomet, will open the 64th International Edinburgh Film Festival.

The film, about a magician who travels from Paris to Edinburgh, has been described as a “fairytale depiction” of Scotland.
Blockbuster Toy Story 3 will get its first UK showing at the festival, with a special 3D screening.

Other highlights include a gala screening of The Man Who Would Be King, to celebrate the film’s star and longtime festival patron Sir Sean Connery‘s 80th birthday.

The festival will have a total of 22 world premieres, 12 international premieres and 133 features from 34 countries.
