‘Game of Thrones’ key character could return in season 7

This Game of Thrones character hasn't been seen since season 3

Game of Thrones season 7 could see the return of a key character, after the actor was reportedly seen on set.

Joe Dempsie – who plays Gendry in the Game of Thrones series – was last seen at the end of season 3, after he sailed away in a rowboat in order to avoid Melisandre and her plans to sacrifice him.

Game of Thrones has yet to welcome Gendry back to the TV show but according to Watchers on the Wall (via Digital Spy), Dempsie has been spotted on set in Spain and will make his on-screen return where he left off – Dragonstone.

Gendry is the last-known character in Game of Thrones to have former Lord of the Seven Kingdoms Robert Baratheon’s blood; his return could prompt some big storylines in the series.

It was announced in July that Game of Thrones season 7 won’t begin until later in 2017.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss explained on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that they “don’t have an air date yet but this year will probably be a little bit later.”

“We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here’ – and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more.

“So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

Game of Thrones Season 7 will only have seven episodes instead of the usual 10, while the showrunners have previously confirmed the series will finish after season eight.
