Shayla Wiggins, 19, stumbled upon scene of crime in Riverton, Wyoming on Friday (July 8)
A teenage girl reportedly found a body floating in a river in Wyoming while playing new video game Pokémon Go.
Pokémon Go – released to much fanfare this week – is an augmented-reality edition of the popular game franchise and sees the fictional creatures superimposed into real life settings.
Local news source KTVQ reports that Shayla Wiggins, 19, from Riverton, Wyoming, found a body floating in the Wind River on Friday morning (July 8) at around 8.40 am (local time).
“The Pokémon are all over Riverton. I was trying to get a Pokemon from a natural water resource,” Wiggins told reporters. “I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water. I had to take a second look and I realised it was a body.”
“It was pretty shocking,” Wiggins added. “I didn’t really know what to do at first. But I called 911 right away and they came really quickly.”
Authorities are thought to be investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, police in Australia have issued a warning over gamer safety to be aware of their surroundings while playing the game.
