Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has confirmed that he was definitely joking about taking over from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Last week, the actor was asked if he was taking the role as part of WIRED‘s long-running video series that sees stars being asked to answer the most googled questions about them.
Radcliffe joked: “There’s going to be a new Wolverine movie, in which it starts off with Hugh Jackman being put into a hot wash.
“And then when he comes out, it’s me. So yes, I’m very happy to announce that here.”
Despite the comments sounding decidedly tongue-in-cheek, Radcliffe soon learnt that sarcasm doesn’t translate to the internet too well.
“”This is what happens when you make jokes,” Radcliffe told IGN after fans began speculating about whether his comments were the truth.
“Wouldn’t it be great if you could just start casting yourself in things by just saying them in interviews?
“So I guess people have been asking something about me and Wolverine, and I made a joke about [playing] Wolverine after being in a hot wash, like I’d been shrunk in a hot wash, and the internet seems to think that I was putting that out there on my dream board cosmic ordering system.”
Got that? He’s isn’t playing Wolverine. Then again, that’s exactly what someone with a secret role would say.
Although he won’t be taking over Jackman’s role, Radcliffe recently said he thinks that we’ll eventually see a Harry Potter reboot.
“I know I’m not the last Harry Potter I’m gonna see in my lifetime – we’ve already got a few more,” Radcliffe said, presumably in reference to Jamie Parker and Gareth Reeves – who have both played adult Harry on stage in the Cursed Child.
“It will be interesting to see how long those films stay… it feels like there’s a sacredness around them at the moment, but that’ll go, the shine will wear off at some point,” he added with a laugh.
“It’ll be interesting if they reboot them and just do the films again or do a series; I’m fascinated to watch.”
