Spectacular high school production of Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ goes viral – watch

Not your average school play...

Ridley Scott’s classic space epic Alien has been adapted into a high school play – with seriously impressive results. Check out the footage, images, and trailer below.

The 1979 movie – set in 2122 – saw a seven-member crew of a commercial space tug, Nostromo, attacked by aliens during their return trip to Earth. Three sequels followed, along with a prequel series made up of 2012’s Prometheus and 2017’s Alien: Covenant.

Now, a US high school’s drama department has taken inspiration from the original film and pulled out all the stops to produce an epic stage version.

Video footage and a trailer of New Jersey’s North Bergen High School’s Alien have since gained thousands of online hits, with viewers being blown away by the costume design, sets, and overall detail.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, art teacher/the play’s director Steven Defendini said: “Our performance of Alien really shows you can do so much with so little, and as long as there is a passion there to do these things, they are possible.”

Saying that students worked together to recreate 15 sets, along with four astronaut suits, he added: “To pull off something of that calibre, every set, every costume is repurposed in one way or another.”

Defendini said that those involved “worked really hard all year” and “did not expect [the response]”.

One clip of the play, which was performed on Friday (March 22), has gained over 83,000 Twitter likes and 20,000 retweets.

“I love that north bergen high school did alien last night as their school play,” said local Andrew Fernandez, “so I’m gonna keep tweeting about how great it is..everything was made from recycled materials .. so nuts amazing I’m so proud of my hometown.”

“Wow that is on some next level high school theatre,” one Twitter user replied to the post. Another said: “Unbelievable. Shocked at how good it looks too.”

In other news, Alien‘s Jonesy the cat got his own spin-off story in an illustrated book last year.
