Hugh Jackman confirms ‘The Greatest Showman 2’ is in the works

The lead actor is up for reprising his role in a second outing

The Greatest Showman 2 is now in the works, Hugh Jackman has confirmed.

The hit musical film was released back in December 2017, with Jackman starring as ringmaster P.T. Barnum. Its accompanying soundtrack has sold over 1.6 million copies, remaining in the UK Albums Chart Top 5 since it hit shelves.

Now, the movie’s lead actor has discussed a potential second instalment in a recent interview, stating that a sequel “could be” on the cards, though he’s still “not sure”.

“I’m being completely honest with you, there is talk of something going around but no one is really sure,” he explained. “But I think someone is working on a treatment for something… I know they are, they’re working on a treatment for something.”

While saying he would be keen to reprise his character for the next chapter, Jackman remained unsure as to how heavily he would feature.

“I don’t know. I don’t know,” he said. “I would like to be part of it for sure, and I don’t know if it would be centred on my character.

“The other thing is, it did take eight years to get it made and that wasn’t all eight years of convincing people. It takes a long time to write stuff.”

Earlier this month, Jackman responded to the backlash surrounding the chart dominance of The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

“There’s loads of people who love it,” he told NME. “In the end, I’m a storyteller. I’m an actor who tells stories. Some people didn’t like The Greatest Showman and that’s fine with me.”

Meanwhile, Jackman is set to hit the road for a European and UK tour in May and June, ending just weeks before this year’s Glastonbury.
